Put a Crystal Pillar at the heart of the base

The official Demo instructions say to place a Crystal Pillar at the heart of your base to shield it from roaming Chaos Storms. Do this before heading out to gather or explore.

Keep the pillar central to the base. When a warning appears, check the visible shield rather than assuming a fixed protection radius.

When a Chaos Storm warning appears

  1. Return to the protected base

Chaos Storms roam across the world. The official guidance is to seek shelter and protect the base with its crystal shield.

  2. Check the actual shield

The v0.1.36.28018 update says Crystal Pillar shields appear shortly after the Chaos Storm warning and can be seen from far away. Look for the shield itself as the warning develops.

  3. Stay alert while sheltered

Keep food and equipment ready. Chaos Storms can bring cursed enemies; a protected base does not remove every combat threat.

Read the Sheltered status correctly

Sheltered appears on the HUD in the base picture above. It identifies the character’s current shelter state. Check the actual Chaos Storm shield separately when the warning appears.

What the protection does not guarantee

Official guidance establishes protection from the roaming storm at a base with a crystal. It does not establish immunity to all enemies or all damage sources.

Old advice about a fixed 30-second death timer is out of date: v0.1.036.28215 changed Chaos Storms so they no longer kill you in 30 seconds and added cursed enemies.

An October 8 developer reply also discussed a moving-crystal bug and an upcoming fix. That historical report does not establish whether a current moved pillar is working. On an updated Demo, inspect the shield when the warning appears; this guide does not prescribe rebuilding a pillar as a universal fix.
